When You Need a Digital Passport Photo
Digital uploads are now required — or accepted — for these US government applications.
US Passport Online Renewal
The State Department's online renewal portal (mytraveldoc.state.gov) requires a digital photo upload. You cannot mail a printed photo with an online renewal — the entire application is digital. This is the most common reason people need a digital passport photo.
Global Entry Application (TTP Portal)
The Trusted Traveler Programs portal (ttp.cbp.dhs.gov) requires you to upload a digital photo as part of your Global Entry, NEXUS, or SENTRI application. Same 2×2 inch spec — submitted as a JPEG file.
USCIS Online Applications (Green Card, Citizenship, Work Permit)
Filing I-485 (green card), N-400 (naturalization), or I-765 (work permit) online through my.uscis.gov requires a digital photo upload. The 30-day recency rule applies — take the photo within 30 days of your filing date.
US Visa Application (Non-Immigrant Visa)
The Consular Electronic Application Center (ceac.state.gov) for US visa applications (tourist, student, work visas) requires a digital photo upload. Note the smaller file size limit — 240KB maximum.
DV Lottery (Diversity Visa Program)
The annual DV Lottery (dvlottery.state.gov) requires a digital photo for every applicant and qualifying family member. File size limit is 240KB — same as the visa portal. Our exported file fits within this limit.
